Embrace the remote and rugged moorland as the sun sets for a truly unique experience... a setting which we hope will provide the perfect backdrop for you to meet that special someone who also shares a love for the great outdoors and adventure.

We cannot guarantee that you will meet "the one", but we can assure that you will have an awesome time exploring the moorland and meeting new people.

In order to increase the chances of meeting someone who you can connect with, we ask that you specify your age range when booking - this will enable us to plan activities accordingly. 

Therefore, you will be asked to select one of the ages ranges: 

ages 35 – 45
ages 45 - 55
ages 55 - 65

These are simply suggested age ranges only - you are welcome to mix with and join whichever group you feel is most suited to you regardless of your actual age.

Singles Hike

Join The Sunnywood Project for this exciting family adventure.

Venturing along the beautiful, well-established country trail paths, you will walk for a distance that suits you, ending your walk at one of the three ELR stations situated along the route. Once you’ve reached your chosen station, you will board the train with your free ticket for a return trip back to the starting point at Bolton Street Station, Bury.

Your options:

Bolton Street Station to Burrs Country Park Station (1.5 miles)
Bolton Street Station to Summerseat Station (3.3 miles)
Bolton Street Station to Ramsbottom (5 miles)

There is no requirement to commit to a distance before booking, as your ticket will enable you to board a return train from any of the three stations along the route; our friendly Walk Leaders will be on hand to guide and support you no matter what distance you choose.

The route starts from Bolton Street Station, Bury making its way to the first stop at the Burrs Country Park. From here, the route passes over waterways and through ancient woodland up to Summerseat where the second station is located. The final section of the route continues with a little hill climb and passes through Nuttall Park from which the final station is not far from.

This is a free event but donations are welcome to help support, develop and sustain the current and future Sunnywood Project Youth Programmes and Community Activities.

Join the Sunnywood Project for a free guided adventure along the East Lancs Railway and then board the train for your return.

Bury Trail & Rail 2025

Join the Sunnywood Project on 20 September for the ultimate endurance challenge. 

The routes will showcase much of the conservation and land management work the team here at the National Trust have undertaken over recent years.

Start at the Hare & Hounds in Holcombe Brook, embarking on a dash through Redisher Woods before commencing the short, steep climb up to Peel Tower. A good runnable stretch along the bridleway before ascending up onto the moor by Beetle Hill.

The 10K route will contour to Pilgrims Cross, then over Harcles Hill, before descending back from Peel Tower, enjoying more of Redisher Wood Nature Reserve.

The 10 Mile route will contour around Bull Hill, picking up the mosses and head towards Crowthorn and Quarlton Heights. Following the bridleway to cross Red Brook, before an ascent to Pilgrims Cross, where you will re-join the route to finish.
