Peel Tower Circular Walk
A two-mile circular route that gives you magnificent views for miles around. When you reach Peel Tower, take a minute to catch your breath and admire the changing scenes from across Greater Manchester, the Derbyshire Pennines and over to North Wales. Peel Tower is open several days throughout the year and if you’re lucky enough to climb the steps to the top of the tower, you'll be treated to magnificent far-reaching views. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a lead during nesting season (1 March and 31 July) and near livestock.

Start point
Lumb Car Road car park, Holcombe, Bury BL8 4NN.
Step 1
Start at Lumb Car Road car park, Holcombe, Bury BL8 4NN. Please take care when crossing Lumb Carr Road.
Step 2
Head through the metal gate on the west side of the road and head up the path. You will be able to see Peel Tower above you.
Step 3
Turn right at the old road, then at the junction turn left onto Moorbottom Road. You will see one of the several interesting old houses of Holcombe.
Step 4
After a short distance turn right onto the marked track. This track is signed as foot access only. Care is needed on the track as it is uneven for its entire length and fairly steep.
Step 5
After passing Top O'th Moor Farm you will approach the impressive Peel Tower. Continue along the track in a northerly direction and you will be able to see moorland heath vegetation including heather, bilberry, mosses and grasses.
Step 6
At the cattle grid you can see Harcles Hill and Harcles Hill Farm, together with some fine examples of dry-stone walling. Continue along the track for 500m until you re-join the bridleway (Moor Road).
Step 7
A further 500m will lead you back into Holcombe village. The Shoulder of Mutton pub is across the road at this point and depending on the time of day, drinks and food may be available.
Step 8
To return to the car park walk 475m on the pavement alongside Lumb Carr Road. Care is needed on Lumb Carr Road.
