Outdoor Trail - Chores in the Chill
Ever wondered the type of jobs children did in Victorian times? Well now you can find out with our brand-new 'Chores in the Chill' winter trail.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Inspired by an image dating back to 1876, of the servants here at Rufford, step back in time and learn all about the domestic duties that were carried out.
Picture yourself climbing into Rufford Old Hall’s chimney and practice cleaning the chimney using the tools provided. Why not pretend your grown-ups are wealthy Victorians as you sweep away the leaves quickly to make sure the path is clear for them to walk, just as servants would have done for Lord and Lady Hesketh to prevent leaves being tangled up in their clothes.
Grab a trail sheet from the Coach House and go in search of the seven trail points dotted about the grounds. We are open Fri – Sun (10.30am-3.30pm).
After a well-earned break from your chores, why not warm up in the cosy Victorian tea-room with a hot drink, home-made meal and a tasty snack.
