Heritage Open Days | Guided Estate Walk in the Riverlands

A guided walk along the River Bure as it meanders through Blickling Estate.

  • Booking essential
  • Free event

Running almost the entire length of Blickling’s northern boundary is 9km of the River Bure, a rare and beautiful chalk stream habitat. The crystal-clear waters that flow across the clean flinty gravels of Britain’s chalk streams rise from aquifers, layers of porous water-bearing rock like chalk, and provide exceptional habitat for insects, plants and fish.

Modern living has placed unsustainable demands on our rivers that threatens their normal function, in turn threatening the species that rely on them. In the Upper Bure catchment, we’re keeping our rivers flowing by restoring precious grasslands and species-rich floodplains, kick-starting natural processes like slowing, storing and filtering water in the catchment.

Join us for a walk exploring this fascinating habitat and sharing what we have achieved so far as part of this ambitious national Riverlands project. This guided stroll will take in around 3km of Blickling Estate trail. The route will be off-road and sturdy footwear is recommended.

This event is free as part of Heritage Open Days, including parking in the main visitor car park. Normal admission charges apply to the house and garden.
