The National Trust owns and manages Brancaster Staithe harbour. Please see below for details of the mooring fees for 2025 and how to apply for a space on the chain for tenders, which are allocated via a ballot.

Ballot for places on the chain in 2025

Places on the chain and around the Sharpie Park in 2025 (1st March to 31st October) will be allocated by a ballot, based on current level of interest. A total of 105 spaces will be available (reduced from 110 in 2024). The ballot will be structured to give priority to boat owners who live within the parish and to those with tenders to moorings in the harbour. Each household will only be allowed one space on the chain.

2024 chain users will be contacted directly to check if they wish to re-enter the ballot and if any of their details have changed.

Any new requests should be sent to Brancastermoorings@nationaltrust.org.uk including the following information:

  1. Name, residential address, telephone number and E-mail.
  2. Description of boat, length of boat, name of boat, is it a tender and if so for which boat (name).

These will then be added to the ballot, closing date is 15th October 2024.

All data will be stored securely.

Allocation of ballot

If you are successful in the ballot, you will be contacted to provide us with some further details, confirm your boat is insured and that you have read, understood and agree to abide by the rules of the harbour.

The terms and conditions for the use of the chain can be found here.

Please be aware that there will also be a fee to pay, covering the period 1 March 2025 to 31st October 2025. The 2024 charge of £50 + VAT will be increase based on the RPI in January 2025 (NB the RPI for July 2024 is 3.5%).

The cost is not applicable to full-time residents of Brancaster Parish; however, any donations will be greatly appreciated to go towards the upkeep of the harbour area.

Once your place is confirmed you will be asked to collect your sticker from the harbour master’s office at Dial House, Harbour Way from 1st March 2025. If your boat is managed by a local business, we can provide them with the sticker. Before you come to collect your sticker, please make a note of the number on the chain (displayed on a scaffold tag) where the boat is attached. This will be written on your sticker.

The Harbour Masters office is open over the high tide from Saturday 19th July to Sunday 8th September 2025.

Making access to the chain fairer

Registering all boats attached to the chain means that places on the chain can be allocated in a way that is fair, transparent and orderly.

It enables us to make sure that all boats on the chain are insured, as well as making it easier for the Harbour Master to get in contact with boat owners if required (for example, in the event of theft or damage to a boat and movement of boats during high tides).
