The historic windpump we care for presents challenges in creating access for all, but we are working to ensure Horsey Windpump is accessible to as many visitors as possible. Here you’ll find information about how to make the most of your visit.

Parking and arrival

There is designated accessible parking at Horsey Windpump. There are 4 designated spaces for visitors with access needs located on either side of the front two rows nearest to Visitor Welcome. These are indicated by yellow line markings. There is the ability to drop off visitors by Visitor Welcome whilst the driver parks in the main car park. There are seats available at Visitor Welcome.

 

Accessible path

An accessible path runs from the front of the car park to the Windpump and out to the viewpoint overlooking Horsey Mere. There are seats at intervals along the path and at the viewpoint.

 

Manual wheelchair

A manual wheelchair is available to for visitors to borrow during your visit, designed specifically to cover rough ground and grass safely.

Who can use it?

The wheelchair is for those who wish to enjoy Horsey Windpump and its accessible path which otherwise may be inaccessible to them.

 

Accessible toilets

There is an accessible toilet next to the car park.

 

Access ramp

The ground floor of Horsey Windpump can be accessed at the front via the access ramp.

 

Induction loop

There is an induction hearing loop set up across the property.

 

Braille and large print guide

There is a braille guide to the Windpump and a large print guide available at Visitor Welcome and the Windpump entrance.

 

Subtitled films

We have two subtitled films which are shown on the bottom floor of the windpump. One is an historical account of the flood in 1938, the other provides a tour of all the floors of the Windpump.

 

Picture folder

We have a large picture folder to show the upper floors of the Windpump.

 

Double handled cups

At our cafe, we have double handled cups and large handled cutlery available.

 

Sensory bag

Please ask to borrow our Sensory bag. It is available at Visitor Welcome.

Contents include Adjustable Ear Defenders* • Wooden Easy-hold Magnifier • Wooden Articulated Caterpillar • Rainbow Press Pop Fidget Toy • Sensory Textured Ball • Wooden Fidget Block

*Please note, the ear defenders are not toys and children should not be left alone with them.
