Gibside's celebration of birds
Flock together for bird appreciation weekend.
- Booking advisable
- Free event (admission applies)
Gibside's bird hide has been reimagined! New artwork by Katherine Rodger splashes colour into the information boards with portraits of goldfinches, siskins and house sparrows.
Inside we now have 3 pairs of binoculars for visitors to use while in the hide, so join a spot of wildlife watching, come see the new designs and get involved in one (or all) of the events we've planned to celebrate our feathered friends.
--- Meet the Artist Katherine Rodger at the Stables. Watch her paint and ask her tips, and why not bring along your own pencils to create a piece inspired by nature? From 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm, drop-in session, booking not needed.
--- Get your kids excited about wildlife by making pine cone bird feeders to hang up at home. From 11am to 12pm and 1pm to 2pm at Gibside Stables, drop-in session, booking not needed.
--- Witness conservation in action with a bird ringing demonstration with bird expert Richard. Learn about different species and populations by discovering the age, weight, size and health of the birds. From 10am to 3pm at the bird hide, drop-in session, booking not needed.
--- Join a bird walk with expert Michael Turner and learn to identify birds by listening for their song, study feathers up close to help spot them from afar and locate them in Gibside woodlands. Limited spots, BOOKING ESSENTIAL, please follow the 'check availability' link at the top of the page to book.
