Tearoom Talks - The Ghosts of Rathlin Island

Join us for a cosy, winter get together in the Tearoom at Carrick-a-Rede on Thursday 7 November at 7:30pm, for an evening of captivating storytelling, sure to make your imagination go wild, beginning with The Ghosts of Rathlin Island.

  • Free event

The cosy surroundings of the Tearoom at Carrick-a-Rede is the venue this winter for what promises to be an unmissable range of talks given by local speakers on a selection of fascinating topics associated with the wonderful Causeway Coast.

Rathlin Island sits off the North Coast of Ballycastle, just over 2 miles from Fair Head and 11 miles from the Mull of Kintyre, Scotland and carries a gruesome history, being the scene of several, major massacres of the population.

Rathlin Island is also surrounded by some of the strongest tides, supported by the large number of boat wrecks lying in the waters around its coast.

Folklore is very much in abundance here. An Enchanted Island is supposed to appear from the sea once every 7 years. The locals say if you lift a pebble from under your feet and can throw it onto the island, then it will never sink back under the sea again.

With a history like this, it should come as no surprise that there have been reports of ghostly goings on...

Our Storyteller for the evening, Teresa lived and worked in the 268-year-old Georgian Manor House and experienced unexplained disturbances first-hand, as well as hearing of other supernatural encounters from around the island.

On what's the first instalment of our winter Tearoom Talks, this is certainly one not to be missed!
