Accessibility at Castle Coole

A gentleman leans out of his mobility vehicle to run his hand through the yellow sea of buttercups in the meadow. To his right, an older woman and man walk along the grass pathway, both wearing raincoats in different shades of blue.

We are working hard to ensure that every visit to Castle Coole is a positive and memorable one. Everyone needs nature and we are doing our bit to ensure that there are no barriers to accessing the grounds of the estate.

Mobility scooter and wheelchair

Castle Coole has a mobility scooter and a wheelchair for visitors to use free of charge, for two hours per visit. We strongly recommend calling us before you arrive to reserve them on 028 6632 2690.

Accessible parking

There is designated blue badge parking in the car park.

House access

There is a ramp outside the Property Office door at the front of the mansion that provides wheelchair access for house tours. The tour involves stairs; however we have a fantastic video for visitors who cannot use the stairs. This video is shown in the Breakfast Room, and showcases the upstairs and basement levels of the mansion. There are also photo albums available to view.

There is seating available in rooms in the mansion for anyone who cannot stand for long periods. Please ask your tour guide about what seating you can use.

Accessible toilet

There is an accessible toilet located beside Visitor Reception.

Buggy for house tour transfers

There is a buggy onsite that can be used to bring visitors from Visitor Reception to the mansion for tours. Please ask on arrival if required.

Otherwise to get from Visitor Reception to the mansion, there is a set of steps and a gravel path, or you can walk up the main avenue, which has an incline.

Visitor Reception

There is level access to Visitor Reception for wheelchairs. There is also an induction loop available.

Café

There is step-free access to the café via Visitor Reception.

Calm bags

There are calm bags available for hire at Visitor Reception. They can be used for two hours per visit and include fidget toys, ear defenders and other sensory items to help visitors have a calm and enjoyable experience.

Accessible paths

The most accessible path at Castle Coole is around our Lake Walk. This is 1.7km trail and is mostly flat.
