Accessibility at The Workhouse & Infirmary

We believe that The Workhouse & Infirmary should be open and accessible for all. Across the property we are continually improving access to ensure everyone can experience this special place. Here you can discover key accessibility information to help you plan your visit.
Arrival and parking
Maps and guides
Map boards are situated around the site for visitors to get their bearings. Guidebooks are available to purchase from the Visitor Reception Building on arrival.
Essential Companion Card
Visitors can bring up to two carers free of charge when visiting the park. Please make the Welcome team aware on your arrival.
To make the process even quicker and simpler, you may want to consider getting a Essential Companion Card. This can be done by calling the Supporter Services Centre on 0344 800 1895 which is open from 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday and 9am to 4pm weekends and bank holidays. Local call rates apply.
You can also email your request to enquiries@nationaltrust.org.uk with your full name, full address and supporter/member number.
Accessible parking
Within the main visitor car park there are 7 accessible car parking spaces available next to the Visitor Reception Building.
Getting around outdoors during your visit
Mobility scooters
Mobility scooters are available to use on arrival from the Visitor Reception Building. The Hub (entrance) to The Workhouse building is approximately 130 metres from the car park along a step-free level path.
Wheelchairs are also available to use.
The kitchen garden
The kitchen garden has step-free level access into and throughout.
Mobile signal and wi-fi
Please note that mobile phone reception is limited across the site.
Places to rest
There are benches throughout the site. Many of our picnic benches are wheelchair accessible.

Getting around indoors during your visit
There is level or ramped access to the Vistor Reception Building on arrival, the Hub, the Infirmary cafe and the ground floor of The Workhouse. There is lift access to the Infirmary building.
Our new Upstairs Downstairs Room on the ground floor of The Workhouse is a representation of one of the wards from the upper floors.
Dogs
Dogs are welcome in the garden, in the outdoor seating area of the cafe and indoors in the dog-friendly section of the cafe. Dogs are not allowed in The Workhouse or the Infirmary buildings.
Secondhand bookshop
There is ramped access into our popular bookshop from the female work yard.
Eat with us
The path to the Infirmary cafe is uneven in places, please take care.
Facilities
Accessible toilets
There are accessible toilets in the Visitor Reception Building, The Hub and the Infirmary cafe.
Baby changing facilities can also be found in the Visitor Reception Building and in the Infirmary cafe.
Induction loop
Induction hearing loops are available in the Vistor Reception Building, the Hub and the Infirmary cafe. In addition, portable induction loops are available to use during the outside information tours of the building. Please pick one up from a member of the team at the Hub.
