Festival of Archaeology Walk: Packhorses & Plane Wrecks
A challenging guided walk exploring the long history of the High Peak’s most trodden walking routes and lesser-known plane wrecks.
- Booking essential
This challenging guided walk explores the long history of the Peak Districts’ ancient packhorse routes that wind through the wild landscape and pauses at some of Kinder Scout's lesser-known plane wreckages, which lie hidden in the moorland.
Beginning in Edale, the walk follows the Pennine Way and ascends Jacob's Ladder onto Kinder Plateau, where it tracks North to explore a couple of plane wreckages. The route then heads East along the South edge of Kinder Scout before descending back into Edale.
The walk is approximately 9 miles and includes a steep ascent, steps, and an uneven footpath. Dogs on leads are welcome but there may be some stiles.
