Steel Cotton Rail Trail: Hathersage to Bamford

A moderate guided walk beginning at Hathersage Station and ending at Bamford Station via Stanage Edge and Bamford Moor.

  • Booking essential

To celebrate 130 years of the Hope Valley train line passenger service, we are leading a series of guided walks traversing the entire length of the Peak District from Dore to Chinley. Each walk will begin and end at a different train station, exploring the peaks and footpaths that flank England’s most picturesque train line.

This third section is a moderate 7-mile walk beginning at Hathersage Station and ending at Bamford Station. The route passes through scenic fields and woodland, before ascending onto Stanage Edge with striking views of the Hope Valley below. It continues along Bamford Moor until descending steeply into Bamford via Bamford Edge and Bamford Clough.

This walk includes a short section of road, an uneven footpath and a steep ascent and descent. Dogs on leads are welcome but there may be some stiles. The walk is not suitable for pushchairs or prams.

These walks coincide with the launch of High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership’s Steel Cotton Rail Trail. This waymarked trail snakes from Midland Station in the centre of Sheffield to Piccadilly Station in Manchester.
