Spring Walks: Alport Castles from Fairholmes
A challenging circular guided walk exploring the incredible rock formations at Alport Castles with stunning views of the Alport and Upper Derwent Valleys.
- Booking essential
Spring is one of the most exciting times to walk in the Peak District. While the moorland does not flower until the beginning of summer, the deep valleys begin to wake from the long winter. Bluebells, celandine and wood sorrel are some of the first flowers to bloom in the meadows and woodland, while the bleats of new-born lambs can be heard everywhere. Explore the Peak District's hidden gems with our carefully curated Spring walks programme, offering a selection of low-level walks across Kinder, Edale & the High Peak that show off the best of springtime.
Discover the incredible rock formations of Alport Castles on this challenging circular walk. The first section of the walk is a steep wooded ascent onto Rowlee Pasture, before following a flagged moorland path to Alport Castles with impressive views of the Alport Valley below. The route descends into the valley below and follows the River Alport Southward until it joins the River Ashop, before snaking back to Fairholmes via Bellhag Wood and Hagg Side.
This 8-mile walk is challenging, includes a steep ascent, and follows an uneven footpath. Due to the moderate difficulty only adult tickets are available. Dogs on leads are welcome but there may be some stiles.
