Enjoy a leisurely visit to The Children’s Country House at Sudbury. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a garden lover or seeking a retreat, there’s something special at this late 17th century house for everyone to enjoy.

Explore the Gardens

Begin your visit with a stroll through our gardens. The terrace beds and urns are bursting with vibrant blooms, creating a serene atmosphere perfect for a morning walk. The Sunken Garden, awash in shades of pink and blue, provides an ideal spot to sit and relax. Don’t forget to wander through the Bluebell Wood, where you can spot Alice in Wonderland figures hidden among the trees.

Perfect Picnic Spots

Pack a picnic and take advantage of the many picturesque spots available. Enjoy your meal by the still lake, where you might spot local wildlife, or find a bench in the Stableyard, with peaceful surroundings and fresh air which make for a delightful experience.

Second-Hand Book Shop

Book lovers will find a treasure trove in our second-hand book shop. Browse through a diverse collection of books and discover new favourites or revisit beloved classics. Each purchase supports the ongoing conservation work at The Children's Country House at Sudbury.

The Museum of Childhood

Reminisce about childhoods gone by in the Museum of Childhood as you explore exhibits that showcase toys and games from different eras. The museum’s displays are sure to evoke fond memories and provide a heartwarming addition to your visit.

A Café Stop

With a range of seasonal snacks and drinks, including hot chocolates, sandwiches, scones and more, treat yourself to a pit-stop in the Fairytale Forest Café.

Dogs Welcome

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the garden and outdoor areas. Please keep your dog on a short lead as there are many birds and geese, and don’t forget to scoop that poop – it helps us keep the garden clean for all visitors to enjoy.

The Historic Home of the Vernon Family

Step back in time with a visit to the Hall, once home to the Vernon family. With over 12 rooms currently open to the public across three levels, explore the historic country home with beautiful plasterwork, carvings and the Grand Staircase.

Behind the Attic Door at The Children's Country House at Sudbury

Mondays during term time. | 11:15am, 1:00pm, 2:30pm. | £5 per place, normal admission charges apply.

Have you ever wondered what stood behind the attic door at The Children's Country House at Sudbury? Now's your chance to find out with new tours taking place every Monday during term time from mid-September 2024.

Take part in a guided tour and learn about parts of the house that are not usually open to the public as well as taking a glimpse into the world of Victorian servants.

Pre-booking is essential. Tickets can be booked online from 10 September 2024. Tours take approximately 45-50 minutes and there is no step-free alternative.
