Visits are by pre-booked guided tours only. We run tours on Thursdays, Saturdays and Bank Holidays during the open season at 2.00pm and 3:30pm. Please book using the button link on the website or by calling 0344 249 1895. Tours last approximately one hour and are limited to 6 people per tour.

Oakhurst Cottage is located in the village of Hambledon, near to the Cricket Green.
Parking: There is no designated parking at Oakhurst Cottage. Please park on Vann Lane opposite the Cricket Green.
The nearest train station is Witley which is served by South Western Railway. From the station it is approximately a 20-25min walk. There is no footpath on this route, so you will need to walk on the road.

Small timber-framed cottage in the village of Hambledon, with an inglenook fireplace and lathe and plaster walls. A fascinating glimpse into Surrey’s rural past.
Shows how an agricultural labourer and his family would have lived in the 19th century. Simple practical furniture, patchwork quilts, a bread oven, rush light candle-holders and kitchen ware.
Garden at the front, planted simply with fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers, reflecting paintings of the cottage by Helen Allingham.
Discover a rare glimpse into times gone by. Explore the compact, traditional garden, a selection of working men’s tools and a cottage dressed to show rural 19th century life.
Oakhurst Cottage will be open to visit for free on Sunday 8 September (2pm - 4.30pm) and Tuesday 10 September (10.30am - 1pm). Our knowledgeable volunteers guides will be on hand to answer questions and give short tours. Please note that due to the size of the cottage, numbers are limited inside so visitors may be asked to wait for a short period before entering.
Before your tour, why not pay a visit to historic Hambledon village with its cricket green and village shop with popular deli-café. The Shop is open 7 days a week from 8:30am to 2:00pm. The deli-café closes 30mins earlier.

Step inside this simply furnished, timber-framed cottage and travel back in time. Lived in continually right up until the mid-1980s, this 16th-century labourer's dwelling has been restored to bring four hundred years of uninterrupted occupation to life. See first-hand the radical changes home life has undergone over the past few centuries, then explore the delightful cottage garden outside. Oakhurst Cottage is currently closed for winter and conservation works are taking place. The cottage will reopen from 1 April 2024. All visits will be pre-booked, including for members.
