Underneath the genteel Georgian façade of Lamb House there lurks many secrets…
'Ghost Written' invites visitors to explore the written heritage of Lamb House, home to some of the leading literary voices of the 20th century, through its ghost stories.
Over a period of over 70 years, more than 70 books were written by our resident authors, and alongside biographies, poetry, essays, and children’s books, they wrote many ghostly tales.
From Henry James, who moved into Lamb House in 1898 while he was finishing his timeless tale The Turn of the Screw, through to Rumer Godden who lived here until the early 1970s and experienced ghostly occurances, the house itself seeped into the work of the authors.
In this exhibition, explore the role it played as muse, as well as home, to our authors.
