Magnificent Meadows Weekend 2024 at Erddig
Join us to celebrate our wildflower meadows for an exciting weekend buzzing with family activities and demonstrations.
- Booking not needed
- Free event
Taking a stroll through a wild meadow in midsummer is a magical moment. Sadly, around 97 per cent of wildflower meadows have been lost since the 1930s. So, with funding from the Magnificent Meadows Cymru project, Erddig celebrates the creation of three new meadows, totalling an amazing 2.86 hectares.
Join us between 11-3pm on 6 and 7 July, when our fantastic rangers will be sharing inspiring ways to enjoy the meadows through a range of activities perfect for both adults and any budding “wild” child.
Watch traditional scything demonstrations and try it for yourself. Follow. meandering pathways through the meadows Sit and relax on the Hay Nests to take in your surroundings and have a go at making a hay bale.
Shuttle runs will take visitors to the Meadows between 11am with the last run at 2.45pm.
On Saturday, 6 July only, from 11am-3pm, hear from our ErddigGrow volunteers about the the bumblebee surveys they do and find out how you can learn to identify different types of bees. Then get crafty and paint your own wildflower meadow using finger painting or brushes. There will also be the opportunity to make a clay owl, inspired by the barn owl box ErddigGrow volunteers made for the meadows.
