Lacock village walk
This easy walk takes you around the beautiful medieval village of Lacock and explores some of the off-the-beaten-track paths within easy reach of the village centre. Picturesque cottages, a bridge over the ford for playing Pooh sticks, and views of traditional English countryside are just some of the highlights along the way.

Start point
Hither Way car park
Step 1
From the main car park entrance cross Hither Way and take the signposted path through the trees to the village.
Step 2
Pass the entrance to Lacock Abbey and the Fox Talbot Museum on your right.
Step 3
At the old Tithe Barn turn right into East Street and then right again into Church Street.
Step 4
Just before St Cyriac’s church, turn left into a small lane called Nethercote.
Step 5
At the packhorse bridge, over the Bide Brook, bear right and continue up the lane to the end.
Step 6
Turn left to cross a stile into a field. Turn half right (diagonally); there are some tall poplar trees beyond the hedge ahead. You should aim about 20yd (18m) to the left of these poplars to cross the stile in the hedge.
Step 7
Turn left along the pavement and continue ahead to the village. This was the old main road before the building of the bypass.
Step 8
Cross the town bridge over the Bide Brook and continue ahead up West Street.
Step 9
Turn left at the war memorial into High Street. The National Trust shop is on your left. You should now follow the outward route back to the car park.
