Arrival and parking

There is designated accessible parking at Brockhampton. The first car park you’ll see at the top of the site has no accessible parking. Continue 1.5  miles down the road to Lower Brockhampton car park which is nearest to the manor house. Here you will find 4 designated spaces for visitors with access needs located approximately 53 metres from Visitor Reception.

A resource station can be found in Visitor Reception which includes accessible maps, large print and braille guides and free to borrow sensory items. There is an induction loop available.

Moving around the site

At Visitor Reception you can borrow a manual wheelchair or a mobility vehicle. Pre-booking is advised by calling 01885 483912 between 10am and 4pm.

There are 3km of hard-standing accessible paths running through the orchards. Other paths across the estate are a mix of gravel and compact earth. Most outdoor visitor areas have level access; however, some areas of the courtyard have uneven and rough surfaces.

Assistance dogs are welcome across all areas and all dogs must be kept on a lead.

There is an accessible routes map available from Visitor Reception and you can also view it here.

Mobile phone reception is poor and intermittent. The number to call in an emergency is: 07812 698998 or 999 in a medical emergency.

Moving around the house

The manor house at Brockhampton is partly accessible.

There is step free level access at the rear of the house. The main entrance at the front of the manor is via two steps. Ask a member of staff or volunteer for a ramp to make wheelchair access to the front of the house easier. The first two rooms are wheelchair accessible. There are two steps down into the kitchen with a nearby ramp available and the first floor requires a short climb up a wooden staircase. There is seating in the house.

Large print and braille guides are available in the manor house.

A virtual tour is available in the accessible Cider Room. To book, please call 01885 483363 between 9am and 5pm, or speak to a member of staff on arrival.

Facilities

There are two all access toilets on site, one in the top car park and the other near the manor house behind the Granary kiosk. Both toilets have wheelchair-friendly cubicles with wall rails and the areas are lit with both natural light and bulbs. There are male and female toilets and baby changing facilities.

The granary café kiosk is located just across the courtyard from the manor house, which has an uneven and rough surface. The door is wide enough to fit a wheelchair and pram through, with a small slope upwards into the kiosk. There is an induction loop at the till point.

There is limited indoor seating available in the room opposite the Granary, which is also accessed via a small slope.

There are several wooden tables with attached benches in the courtyard.

There is no Changing Places (adult changing table and hoist) facility at Brockhampton.

There are no toilets in the manor house.

Useful resources

There are resource stations at Visitor Reception and in the manor house. They offer free to borrow sensory bags and individual sensory items including noise cancelling headphones and fidget toys. You will also find accessible maps, braille and large print guides.
