Walking Trails at Clent Hills | The Butterfly Trail

Explore both Clent and Walton Hill on this 3.2 mile walk. The Butterfly Trail should take around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Please be aware this is an intermediate trail, both the footpaths and terrain on this walk can be uneven – and this walk includes steep inclines and steps.

Start point

Start at the Omega Sign on the bridleway behind the main map board at Nimmings Wood car park.

Step 1

Facing away from the omega sign, head towards HAGLEY WOOD LANE along the bridleway, turn right and walk along the road to the T-junction with ST KENELM’S PASS, turn right and then turn left after about 90m onto WALTON HILL ROAD.

Step 2

Follow the road up to and in between the two car parks, keeping right. Step over the bridle gate and turn left through the kissing gate following the trail up Walton Hill to and through the wooden kissing gate at the top.

Step 3

Follow the way-markers to the top and bend around to the left and continue to follow the way-markers to the boundary fence at WALTON HILL FARM.

Step 4

Here, turn right and follow this path around to the top of the next path where the way-markers will point you left.

Step 5

Head downhill for about 90m and take a sharp right down a path that gradually tightens.

Step 6

Where this path ends, you will turn right onto a concrete path and continue to head downhill, past the white house, until you come to the road.

Step 7

Turn right up the road and then keep left to follow the way-markers up a steep slope that will bring you back on to Clent Hills.

Step 8

Follow the way-markers up a steep incline until you meet another footpath, here turn right towards a wooden gate, at the gate follow the path to the left up towards the FOUR STONES.

Step 9

Head downhill to the right of the Scots Pine plantation towards the TOPOSCOPE and the EASY ACCESS path.

End point

Follow the path back to NIMMINGS WOOD car park.
