Accessibility at Croft Castle

Croft Castle and Parkland has designated parking, accessible paths, bookable wheelchair and mobility vehicles, wheelchair friendly toilets, braille guides, accessible map, sensory aids, induction loops and a virtual tour.

Arrival and parking 

There is designated accessible parking at Croft Castle and Parkland. There are more than 10 designated spaces for visitors with access needs located approximately 35 metres from Visitor Reception. 

A resource station can be found in Visitor Reception which includes accessible maps, large print and braille guides and free to borrow sensory items. There is an induction loop. 

Moving around the site 

There is an electric buggy/shuttle vehicle which can pick visitors up from the car park and drop them off at various points around the property. The buggy is not accessible for people who cannot transfer from their wheelchair. 

At Visitor Reception you can borrow a manual wheelchair or a mobility vehicle. Pre-booking is advised by calling 01568 780873 during opening hours.  

There is an accessible route in and out of the walled garden and an accessible concrete path all the way around. There is an incline to reach the furthest end of the walled garden. Pathways around the front of the castle are loose gravel and the entrance into the walled garden has a temporary accessible path installed over cobbled stones.

Assistance dogs are welcome across all areas and all dogs must be kept on a lead.

Mobile phone reception is poor and intermittent. The number to call in an emergency is: 07920 086838 or 999 in a medical emergency. 

Moving around the castle 

The castle is accessible via one steep stone step at the entrance. There is a ramp available. There is step free level access throughout the ground floor. The first floor can only be accessed via a staircase. There is seating in the house. 

Large print and braille guides are available in the house.

Facilities 

There are two toilet facilities with adaptations, which can be found adjacent to the tearoom, and within the castle.

The tea-room is approximately 80 yards from visitor reception. The pathway is slightly gravelled concrete. The entrance to the tea-room is level and accessible. There is an induction loop. 

Useful resources 

There are resource stations at Visitor Reception and in the house. They offer free to borrow sensory bags and individual sensory items including noise cancelling headphones and fidget toys. You will also find accessible maps, braille and large print guides.
