Volunteers are vital to maintaining the natural habitat at The Weir Garden, so wildlife can thrive, and visitors can continue to enjoy this special place on the River Wye. In 2024 the Herefordshire team are embarking on a huge project which will see the creation and restoration of over 65 hectares of priority habitats.
With a riverside garden, walled garden, and varied countryside habitats to care for, there are many ways you can support the important work at The Weir Garden which has nature at its heart. Whether its greeting visitors with a friendly welcome, helping to care for the beautiful gardens, or getting out into the countryside to maintain and restore wildlife habitats, our volunteers' contributions make a lasting impact.
Thanks to the support of National Highways, we are embarking on a new project to restore over 65 hectares of priority habitat at The Weir Garden. By restoring meadowland, wood pasture, broadleaf woodland, and traditional orchards, we'll create a mosaic of diverse habitats for wildlife, with lots of opportunities to get involved.
There are so many reasons to volunteer with us; making the move to volunteer could be the best decision you ever make, whatever your age, background, or interests.
All our volunteering opportunities are flexible and there is no minimum commitment required to get involved. There are dozens of different roles available across the National Trust in Herefordshire.
Volunteers can get involved with as many teams and opportunities as they like.
You can offer as little or as much time as possible, with a variety of roles to choose from. Our volunteers require no previous experience, all training is given and our friendly team of staff and existing volunteers are happy to guide you along the way.
We want all volunteers to feel welcome and have a positive experience when volunteering with us. Everyone is welcome to volunteer with the National Trust.

Volunteers will get to explore and protect the great outdoors and protect our local wildlife and landscape. They will learn about the history, nature, and archaeology of The Weir Garden and beyond. Volunteers operate with the rangers at The Weir Garden, keeping the countryside in good condition, monitoring and restoring visitor pathways and local habitats.
Do you have a creative eye? Do you like interacting with people or perhaps you’re good at constructing things? You can join the team that help make events at The Weir Garden the best they can be.
The visitor welcome team always appreciate a helping hand and will shadow you as you encourage visitors to benefit from what The Weir has to offer, scanning membership cards, promoting membership and more.
