Make it York Residents' Festival

This five-acre garden on the edge of York racecourse is often described as a hidden gem. Bought from the Terry family as the regional office of the National Trust, the gardens are opened on selected days and are a surprise pocket of nature in the city suburbs.

Designed by George Dillistone in close liaison with Noel Terry, at the same time he built his Arts and Crafts home with Walter Brierley. A series of interlocking garden rooms continue to emulate the style outside. Small enough to feel personal, large enough to impress. Bring a picnic or grab a take away as you explore formal terraces, the orchard, vegetable garden and glasshouse and wildlife areas.
