How we’re gardening more sustainably with STIHL

We’ve teamed up with tool company STIHL to support our gardeners switch to battery-powered gardening tools, helping us to ensure we’re working more sustainably at the places in our care.

Our team of gardeners are using STIHL’s range of battery-powered gardening tools, which are helping them to work more efficiently, quietly and in a more sustainable way across the gardens and green spaces we look after.

A family-owned business, STIHL provide a range of petrol, electric and battery-powered gardening tools to both home gardeners and horticultural professionals. Their founder, Andreas Stihl invented the first portable petrol chainsaw in the 1920s.

Since then, STIHL’s focus has been to make people’s lives easier when working in and with nature, committing years of investment into research and development of their battery technology.

Supporting sustainability

Using battery-powered tools supports our goals to work more sustainably by reducing noise pollution and emissions. The tools vibrate less than petrol alternatives, making it easier for our gardeners to use them for longer periods.

STIHL’s tools also support the Silent Space project, which helps to create quiet spaces in gardens across the UK. This includes several gardens in our care, including Kingston Lacey in Dorset.

‘STIHL is really proud to be working with an organisation that is as well-loved as the National Trust. It's brilliant to be able to support the gardening teams in their transition to the use of STIHL battery-powered equipment. Our mission is to make people's lives easier when working in nature and we hope to be able share our approach to this and our passion for gardening with National Trust members too.’
