On the wonderful Killerton Estate in Devon, this pretty 1930’s inspired cottage nestles in acres of countryside, looking towards Ashclyst Forest, perfect for escaping the city.
With the estate chapel set just behind the cottage, the school house itself is where Sunday school was held in days gone by. Today, it’s been renovated to provide a luxurious and relaxed cottage, sleeping 6 that’s in a great place for meeting up with friends and family, with a location just off the M5. You’ll be close to amazing walking country where you can all explore the estate and beyond.
When you open the front door of this cottage, you’ll find yourselves in the entrance hall, with access to the large open plan kitchen, ample dining area and main sitting room. There’s a lovely cosy snug as well, and lots of nods to the past with some of the 1930s fireplaces (not in use). One of the double bedrooms is also on the ground floor, next to the downstairs bathroom. Upstairs you’ll find a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, which we can make into a double if you prefer. You’ll also find a shower room up here. The upstairs rooms look out over the wonderful Killerton countryside and parkland. Outside there is a large enclosed garden with the same wonderful views. There is a table, chairs and a BBQ to use on sunny days.
The cottage sits on a country road on the Killerton Estate, and you’ll find 18th-century Killerton House, shop and café just a 10 minute stroll away across the estate. If there are more than 6 of you, then you can book the adjoining Crabtree School Lodge next door to sleep up to 10 across the two cottages. Killerton itself offers 6,400 acres for you to explore, filled with miles of footpaths and cycle paths that cross historic parkland, formal gardens and a wider agricultural estate. You can hop on to the trails from the cottage doorstep, so it’s the perfect spot for outdoor lovers and walkers.
Once you’ve explored everything Killerton has to offer, then Broadclyst is the closest village to the cottage, where you’ll find a village shop, post office and pubs and restaurants. Beyond that, the vibrant and historic city of Exeter is just 20 minutes away by car with its bustling mix of independent and big name shops, bars, restaurants, pubs, cinemas and theatres. And if you’re keen to explore more of Devon, then why not head into the wilds of Dartmoor, or the beach at Exmouth or Sidmouth? When you stay with us, the funds from your holiday go towards caring for special landscapes and places, like the Killerton Estate.

Multi-cottage: Crabtree School House can be booked together with Crabtree Lodge to sleep 10 guests in total.
Induction Hob: Please be aware that there is an induction hob at this cottage. Guests with pacemakers are advised to check with their doctor to ensure there will be no interference with their pacemaker. Guests with pacemakers are also advised to keep a distance of at least 60cm (2ft) from the hob when cooking.
Heating: This cottage is heated by an air sourced heat pump.
Parking: Two private parking spaces within the garden of the cottage.
Garden: Large, enclosed garden with views of The Chapel and parkland and seating.
Wifi: We are pleased to provide free WiFi at this cottage which is supported by BT. Please note that intermittent connection problems can sometimes occur so it should not be relied upon.
