Oldbury Hill Campsite is surrounded by woodland paths winding through the trees and off into the countryside. The woods are home to many birds, insects, plants and funghi, and you'll feel a world away from the towns, shops, pubs and restaurants that are all easy to reach in this part of Kent. Steep paths lead to the top of Oldbury Hill, home to paleolithic man and then the construction of one of the finest Iron Age hillforts in the country in about 100BC. The defensive settlement has two miles of earth ramparts, partially disguised by trees, scrub and heath, and views across the Weald. Its inhabitants left when the invading Romans arrived.

You'll have free entry to all National Trust places during your stay, and there are five nearby. You can walk to the first, Ightham Mote (two miles away), a 14th-century estate with moated manor house and gardens. Knole, Chartwell and Emmetts Garden are less than 10 miles away and Scotney Castle isn't much further.

London is an easy day trip, taking the train from Sevenoaks (five miles away), a town with plenty of shops and places to eat and drink. Historic Tunbridge Wells with its well-known shopping district is 15 miles away. If you're heading to or from mainland Europe, Oldbury Hill makes a good stop, handily placed for Dover or Folkestone.

Check-in is from 1pm and before 8pm, with departures by 11am. To help preserve the site's tranquillity, quiet time is 10pm - 7am.
