Nestled on the vast Sheffield Park estate in the glorious Sussex countryside, this gardener’s cottage puts you at the heart of the historic parkland.
Fomerly occupied by some of the estate’s gardeners, you’ll love this cottage’s location in the estate, close to the old stables, shop and tea-room. With out-of-hours access to the wider estate it’s great for walkers, cyclists, families and couples looking to kick back with acres of space for outdoor adventures.
Inside the cottage, you’ll find a sympathetic and comfortable renovation with a neutral colour palette, beautiful wooden floors in the sitting and dining room and feature walls of artwork, echoing the history of the parkland and water features of the landscape garden. In terms of layout, downstairs the small utility area gives way to the kitchen with the dining room on the left, and there’s also the sitting room and the bathroom. Upstairs you’ll find the double master bedroom and the second twin, with another toilet and sink. Outside you can stretch your legs in the lawned garden, or sit down for an alfresco lunch or dinner when the sun is shining.
As you approach this semi-detached cottage, you’ll find you’re only 100m from the National Trust shop and tea-room, which means you don’t have far to go for delicious cake! And with the whole of Sheffield Park estate as your playground, you’ll find so much to explore, from the winding paths, grand trees, lakes, cascades and bridges to quieter spots perfect for picnics. Off the beaten track nature thrives in the 300 acres of parkland and woods that surround the garden - and if you’re strolling the river Ouse, look out for a flash of blue darting past you, as it’s home to pretty kingfishers.
Beyond the estate, there’s even more Sussex countryside to take in when you stay. The Ouse Valley walkway stretches for 42 miles, brilliant for walkers and nature lovers. You could also head to Ashdown forest, or onto the bluebell train line, or go llama walking at a local farm; there’s plenty to keep you entertained when you stay. When you’re looking for a meal or shops, then you’ll find Fletching with its cafe and two pubs only 2.5 miles away, and both Haywards Heath and Uckfield are less than 10 miles from the cottage. When you stay with us, the funds from your holiday go towards caring for special landscapes and places, like Sheffield Park.
