On 11th July 2024 we held our Symposium, entitled ‘Female Craft and Design in the Eighteenth and Early Nineteenth Centuries’. Held at Reed Hall, University of Exeter, we invited a wide range of people to share stories about A la Ronde and how it connects to the wider world. This paper' From Chinese Chambre to Feather Room: Elizabeth Montagu’s (1718-1800) Interiors in the 1760s and 1780s London' was presented by Wenyu Dong, as part of the panel 'Georgian period embellished decorative interiors using natural materials'.

From Chinese Chambre to Feather Room: Elizabeth Montagu’s (1718-1800) Interiors in the 1760s and 1780s London

Wenyu Dong presented her paper 'From Chinese Chambre to Feather Room: Elizabeth Montagu’s (1718-1800) Interiors in the 1760s and 1780s London' at the A la Ronde symposium 2024.

Biography: Wenyu Dong

Wenyu Dong is currently an MA student at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, China, majoring in cultural heritage.

With a background in art history and having previously studied museum studies at University of Manchester, she is interested in the British aesthetics of Chinese objects in 18th century, particularly in the realm of Chinoiserie. Her most recent project delves into the Chinoiserie interior design of Lady Elizabeth Montagu’s London town house during the 1760s.

She is also interested in broader aspects of 18th-century British material culture. Her forthcoming research will explore the material culture that emerged after the introduction of tea in the UK, with a focus on the materiality characteristics of British tea culture.

On 11th July 2024 we held A la Ronde's Symposium, entitled ‘Female Craft and Design in the Eighteenth and Early Nineteenth Centuries’.
