Woodchester Park comes alive in autumn and winter. With new path surfaces to enjoy for walking, and lots of family-friendly events over the autumn period, now is a great time to visit to enjoy some autumn colour. Find out more here.

During October, the trees at Woodchester Park turn a glorious shade of orange, and now's a great time to enjoy autumn colour. As well as this, there are also lots of events planned in the warm, cosy space at Tinkley Gate Cafe. Find out about these events here, and be sure to check our Woodchester Park Events page for more information on planning these events in, booking and tickets.

Self-Led Bat Walks

This trail is perfect for little legs, and will take you on a trail through the safe, mown paths from Tinkley Gate bookshop and back. Learn about the different bats we have at Woodchester Park, and the important conservation work we undertake to keep their population thriving.

  • 22nd October - 4th November.
  • No booking required
  • Dress for the weather - wellies are recommended.

Gourd and Turnip Carving

Before pumpkins made their way over from America, it was tradition in England to scare away the ghouls using turnips and gourds. Try your hand at carving with inspiration available for creating intricate designs or simply scary faces!

  • 26th October and the 29th October (4 sessions from 11am to 2pm).
  • The event is free, but booking is advisable
  • The event is 16+ only due to the sharp nature of the tools used.

Family-friendly Autumn Crafts

Celebrate the arrival of the low season with family friendly autumn craft sessions inside the warmth of the Tinkley Gate cafe. Enjoy a hot drink and crafting sessions, where you'll learn to work with natural objects like leaves to create decorations and displays for the home during winter.

  • 30th and 31th October from 10am - 2pm.
  • The event is free, but booking is advisable on the National Trust events page.

Tissue Paper Stained Glass Workshops

Cheer up wintery windows by learning to make a stained-glass tissue paper scene. Follow from a range of set templates or take inspiration from the beautiful scenery to create your own design and build the tissue paper into layers of colours that are illuminated by the light of a window. Take home your wonderful creation to decorate the cold winter nights with. This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience from beginner to more advanced.

  • Tuesday 19th November & Thursday 21st November
  • 2 sessions per day: 10am-12pm, 1pm-3pm.
  • £10 tickets available through the event page.
