May Moth and Butterfly Trail

Find out more about our special relationship in this part of the world to rare butterflies and moths in this free trail for children. On May weekends and May half-term.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

In May, the Stroud area of the Cotswolds bursts into life with butterflies and moths making the most of the warming weather. Our region’s mix of wildflower meadows, hedgerows, and ancient woodlands provides the perfect habitat for these insects, offering plenty of nectar sources and sheltered spots for breeding. Butterflies can be seen gliding through sunlit clearings, while moths become more active as dusk falls, drawn to the abundance of food and hiding places among the trees and grasses.

This varied landscape supports a wide range of species, from brightly coloured butterflies feeding on spring blossoms to moths that blend into their surroundings during the day.

Come and find out more about the varied species we have at Woodchester Park and Tinkley Gate this spring, with a special half term trail designed for children to help celebrate this unique time of the year. This is a free event and no booking is necessary.
