Paintings from Woodchester Park - Stan Giles Exhibition
Stan Giles' work focuses on the uniqueness of the Gloucestershire landscape. Join us at Tinkley Gate for an exhibition of his work: 'A Walk in the Park - Paintings from Woodchester Park'
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Stan Giles trained in the Restoration and Conservation department of the National Gallery, London, and worked on major works of art throughout the UK.
He obtained his MA exploring the relevance of landscape painting to contemporary environmental issues. Exhibitions include group and solo shows in London, Bristol, Birmingham and Stroud, together with an informal residency in Standish Woods and a collaboration with musicians at the Royal Music Conservatoire, Birmingham. More recently, he has focussed on the uniqueness of the Gloucestershire landscape.
In 2023 Stan began to visit Woodchester Park recording the changes over the year in all weathers and at different times of day. The location is the inspiration; the drafting creates the moment; the painting releases the response. All paintings start in situ using a loose, un-stretched canvas or calico. Sometimes the material is primed, sometimes unprimed. The paintings are completed in the studio, often returning to the location to rework the images. Often some initial marks are left to show the process. As one image degrades, another appears, mimicking much of the natural cycle in the park.
Join us in the barn area of Tinkley Gate between 18th April - 4th June to view Stan's artwork. We also have an artist's workshop, and meet the artist events.
