Hibernation Exploration Trail

Come and learn about some of the animals that we have hibernating at Woodchester Park this winter.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event

This wintery trail starts in the second hand bookshop, where you can pick up a trail sheet to fill in while you find out about the secret world of hibernating animals. Perfect for little legs, follow the round signs through the mown paths in front of Tinkley Gate Cafe to learn the hibernating habits of a different creature at every sign. Keep your eyes peeled for signs of sleeping animals that might be hidden around you!

This is a free, self-led trail and there is no need to book a space. Just turn up, grab a sheet and get going!

The basics

Suitability

The trail is perfect for children.

Meeting point

The trail starts in the second hand bookshop at the Tinkley Gate entrance to Woodchester Park. Tinkley Gate National Trust Carpark Tinkley Lane Nympsfield GL10 3UH

What to bring and wear

This trail is outdoors so make sure you dress for the weather and wrap up warm. Wellies or walking boots are recommended for the grassy ground.

Accessibility

The paths are mostly flat but often bumpy and grassy. There are walking poles available to borrow from the Bookshop. The trail is quite short and stays on the top of the valley. There is an off-road mobility scooter, the tramper, available to book in advance. There are accessible parking spaces and an accessible toilet inside the cafe.

Other

The bookshop is opposite the accessible parking spaces at the Tinkley Gate entrance to Woodchester Park. There are two car parks for Woodchester Park. One is called Buckholt and the other is called Tinkley Gate. The brown signs direct you to Buckholt rather than Tinkley Gate. If you have access to google maps then typing in "Tinkley Gate National Trust Car Park" will take you to the correct entrance. If you follow Tinkley Lane between Nympsfield and Nailsworth, then look out for two long, low, colourful banners on the same side of the road that mark the entrance to Tinkley Gate Car Park.
