In Deborah Moggach's How I Learnt to be a Real Countrywoman, London incomer Ruthie's conservation campaign lights up her life and libido. In the Author's Footsteps by Adam Thorpe a determined rambler with an outdated guidebook brings mayhem to Milton Keynes. Artist Florence takes measures to secure home and family from possible intruders in Protection by Helen Dunmore. In Jo Scott’s Leap of Faith sparks fly on the high moors when boy meets girl on midsummer’s eve.
