'Mischief in Miniature' brings to life the nostalgia of Beatrix Potter's tale featuring the mischievous mice, Hunca Munca and Tom Thumb. This enchanting experience is designed to delight visitors of all ages with miniature scenes from the book, along with other 'acts of mischief' that the pair might engage in at Hill Top. As though they have jumped from Beatrix’s pages, tiny mice can be discovered in various nooks and crannies throughout the property, illuminated by small candles and lanterns that add an extra touch of magic to your experience.

Let us know your favourite acts of mischief by sharing pictures on social media with the #mischiefinminiature, tagging Hill Top, @ntlakedistrict and @nationaltrust. 

This experience accompanies the new exhibition ‘Pets to Page: The Tale of Two Bad Mice', which will reveal the real-life inspiration for Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Two Bad Mice (1904).

The Tale of Two Bad Mice comes to life at Hill Top, with little needle-felted mice in various mischievous scenes around the property for you to try and spot.

Mischief in Miniature

Our gardeners spend all year taking care of Hill Top's cottage garden to make sure it looks its best for visitors. On 18 & 21 April, they'll be around at 11:00 - 12:00 and 14:00 - 15:00, helping you pot up some seeds to take home, so you can watch a living memory of your visit grow. This activity also ticks off the 'help a plant grow' activity on your 50 things to do before you're 11&3/4 sheet so don't forget to mark it off.

We ask that everyone does the seed planting activity after going into the house, to avoid any mucky hands inside.

Don't forget to send us pictures of your plant growing - we want to know how it goes!

Please note that in the event of bad weather, this event may be cancelled.
