It's blowing a hoolie... why Oxburgh Estate is closed when it's windy

As we move through autumn and head back in to the winter months, the likelihood of high winds in the weather forecast increases.

Oxburgh Estate has several areas of ancient woodland and tree lined pathways which in high winds carry the risk of being damaged and of causing damage to their surroundings.

With that in mind, our high winds policy was created to ensure that our visitors, staff and volunteers all remain safe during times of increased risk. Our policy dictates that Oxburgh will be closed when the Met Office weather forecast predicts wind gusts of 40mph and above.

We know that it can be frustrating when we have to close the site at short notice, especailly if you have been planning a trip for a while. We will always provide as much notice as we possibly can before closing by posting on our website and across our social media channels so we recommend checking both of those before visiting.

After a day of closure due to the weather, the Parkland Team carry out a storm check first thing. As soon as we know that all is safe and well, we open the site to staff, volunteers and visitors - Keeping everyone safe is the most important thing.
