We want to make Sandilands accessible for everyone. So, we’re transforming the former golf course into a year-round nature reserve, allowing more visitors to experience Sandilands’ nature and beauty in future.

Here’s all you need to know to make the most of your visit.

Arrival and parking

  • Location: Roman Bank, Sandilands nr Sutton-on-Sea, Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire, LN12 2RJ.
Sandilands is located along the Lincolnshire Coast and forms the northern most point of the Lincolnshire Coastal Country Park. Brown signs from the A52 will guide you to the former golf course, part of the Lincolnshire Coastal Country Park.

  • Parking: The main car park has a firm surface with loose gravel and additional grass parking. Accessible parking is available, with two designated spaces near the toilet block and two more at the top of the road adjacent to the main car park leading to the seafront entrance. Vehicles with a blue badge are exempt from charges.

  • Drop-off Point: Conveniently located at the top of the road adjacent to the main car park entrance, leading to the seafront.

  • Access Options: The main car park steps have a handrail, and there is a ramped path to the promenade from the drop-off point.

  • Welcome Building: From August 2024 to Autumn 2025, we’re undergoing exciting transformations, with some areas temporarily fenced off for safety. Stay updated on our progress.

  • Accessibility: Contact us in advance if you need any assistance.

Facilities

  • Toilets: Public toilets, including baby-changing facilities, a Changing Place, and an accessible toilet (both accessible with a radar key), are available in the main car park. Visitors to the southern end of the site can use nearby facilities at Huttoft Terrace car park.
  • Café: SandiDunes kiosk is open daily (10am-3pm in autumn/winter, 10am-4pm in spring/summer), offering hot and cold drinks, snacks, and treats with gluten-free and vegan options. Staff are happy to assist with orders and carrying refreshments. There is a gentle ramp up to it from the gravel path. Only outdoor seating is available.

Moving around the site

  • Walking: Although no official trails are marked, you can explore freely with dogs on short leads. Paths along the sand dunes offer easier walking. Note that some large areas are fenced off during renovations for visitor safety. Check for updates on our webpage.
  • Viewpoints: The top of the sand dune near Boy Grift Drain offers lovely coastal views, access via steps.
  • Crossing Boy Grift Drain: Follow the clear concrete pathway and bridge, and be cautious near deep water and vehicle access points.
  • Dykes and Scrapes: Avoid slippery areas and be mindful of steep scrapes.
  • Ground Conditions: The terrain is mostly flat with occasional uneven ground, such as rabbit holes or sudden height changes.
  • Dogs: All dogs, including assistance dogs, are welcome on short leads.

Coming soon

A range of walkways and boardwalks are being installed to ensure convenient and safe access for everyone across this special landscape. There will also be a visitor welcome building at the northern tip of the reserve, that will contain an accessible café and a community space.

Improving accessibility to the site is a primary objective of the Sandilands project. Stay tuned for even more features and amenities as we continue to transform Sandilands in to a space where everyone can enjoy the benefits of being in nature.
