Swathes of snowdrops decorate Chastleton's gardens in February. We'll be opening our gates for special snowdrop openings so that you can enjoy the sight of the year's first flower.

When we first started caring for Chastleton over 30 years ago, thousands of snowdrops were planted in the area now known as the Wilderness Walk. We've increased planting and improved winter walking conditions in recent years, resulting in big, beautiful snowdrops displays accessible by a network of winding pathways.

Whether you fancy a self-led walk around our 'wilderness' to enjoy the winter display, or you’re a true galanthophile and you fancy a few hours lying on your stomach looking up into the interesting hybrids, we look forward to welcoming you.

There will be plants for sale and a cash only, self-service tea and coffee station. Please note that the house is closed in February, and areas of the garden are closed in winter. This event is for the wilderness walk area of the garden only.

Our snowdrop openings take place on 11, 12, 18 and 19 February. The wilderness walk is open from 11am-2.30pm. Pre-booking essential. Your booked time is your time of arrival, but you're welcome as long as you like up until we close at 2.30pm.

Free for National Trust members, £4.50 for non-members.

First Flowers: Snowdrops at Chastleton

Enjoy a quiet day at Chastleton, with fewer visitors and an artistic focus.

Over the years Chastleton has been home to, and inspired, a host of artistic minds. From fine art professors to painters, to housing many of the Ashmolean's treasures during the war, art has always had a home at Chastleton.

Inspired by Chastleton offers a chance to spend time enjoying the peace and quiet of Chastleton's gardens, whilst enjoying your chosen art form. Make the most of the morning light and set up an easel or a tripod and enjoy having Chastleton mostly to yourself.

Inspired by Chastleton sessions take place on Tuesdays 13 May, 10 June, 8 July, 5 August, 2 September, 10am-3pm each day. 

£7 entry for all participants (including National Trust members). Garden opening only, house closed but toilets open. Honesty tea and coffee stand available in the brewhouse.

13 May, 10 June, 8 July, 5 August, 2 September: bring a paintbrush, pencil, camera or notebook and enjoy an art focussed, out-of-hours garden opening.
