White Edge Loop cycling trail

Discover the Hope Valley on this easy cycling trail around the Longshaw Estate. Despite being relatively flat, this circular route takes in sweeping views across the landscape surrounding the estate. The trail follows roads and bridleways through woodland and moors, passing an old gamekeeper's cottage and 18th-century waymarker.

Start point

Longshaw Café, Longshaw S11 7TZ. Grid ref: SK264798

Step 1

With the Longshaw Café behind you, follow the road on the right to head south away from the café before turning right past the den-building area. Bear right and follow the bridleway up through the wood towards a gate. Keep left where the path splits and then stop and dismount at the gate.

Step 2

Go through the gate and take care crossing the busy road onto the traffic island. Cross over to the other side and head towards the gate. Follow the path up to White Edge Lodge. Skirt around the lodge, bear slightly right and head down the path in a south-westerly direction, towards the road.

Step 3

Take care crossing the busy road. Go through the gate opposite and turn right, following the bridleway north back to the Longshaw visitor centre. Please slow down and dismount as you approach the café and visitor area to help keep everyone safe.
