Booking your visit to Dolaucothi

When you visit Dolaucothi, you will be guided on an underground tour uncovering the secrets of this industrial landscape. You will need to book your tour in advance – find out here how to book and what to expect when you arrive.

Winter walks at Dolaucothi

Although the mineyard and tours are closed for winter – don’t forget that you can still visit the wider estate. Park in the woodland car park, opposite the mine car park and start your walks from there. See the illustrated map in the car park. 

Re-opening in Spring

The bookable guided tours and mineyard at Dolaucothi will re-open on the 19 March 2025. Bookings for tours will be online around three weeks in advance. We’re looking forward to seeing you all back next year. 

How to book

You’ll need to pre-book to visit Dolaucothi. Please see our Things To See and Do page for detailed information on each of our 3 guided tours.  Two of them are active, mostly outdoor experiences, involving steep steps and upland pathways, but we also run a Level Tour, without steps.  Please choose the tour most suited to your requirements. 

  • Booking is essential for visiting Dolaucothi. New bookings are released every Thursday for the following 4 weeks. 
  • Entry is free for members, but please bring your membership card with you. Non-members will need to pay in advance. 
  • Please book one ticket per person, except for children aged 5 or under as they don't need a ticket (but please note, for safety reasons, children under 1 M - normally around 5 years of age - are not permitted in the mines themselves).  
  • Tours start promptly at the times shown.  Please arrive 15 mins ahead of that time to allow for Health & Safety briefing and kitting up.
  • Bookings are for your use only and are not available for resale. 
  • We'll send your booking confirmation by email. Please make sure you fill in your correct email address when you book to ensure you receive your confirmation email. 

 

Visiting with children

Please note, for safety reasons:

Children under 1 M in height, which is normally around 5 years of age,  are not permitted underground.

All children need to be happy to wear a hard hat whilst in the mines, and to walk unaided.

Changing your booking

If you set up an account when you made your booking, you will be able to amend the date/time of your booking online up to 24 hours before the date of your visit, or by calling 0344 249 1895

If you are a member and can no longer attend, please let us know by giving us a call on 0344 249 1895

When you arrive

Please arrive 15 mins before your chosen tour time to ensure time to complete the safety briefing in readiness for starting the tour.

  • 10.30 (Mining Through the Ages)
  • 11.30 (Roman Tour)
  • 13.00 (Mining Through the Ages)
  • 14.00 (Roman Tour)
  • 15.30 (Level Tour)

Please note you need to book tickets for Guided Underground Tours Dolaucothi. You can book on the day up until 1 hour before your chosen tour time (subject to availability). Tickets are made available every Thursday for the next 4 weeks.

Dolaucothi is a two pawprint rated place. Dogs are welcome everywhere at Dolaucothi, from the tours of the Roman gold mine to the miles of footpaths to explore across the wider estate.
