Guided Walk: From the Romans to World War Two
Join us for a fascinating longer walk across the moor to uncover 2,000 years of history

This walk will be chock full of history covering two millennia. We'll head out to Castleshaw to learn about a Roman Fort that was located here, and also visit the spot where a Mustang fighter crashed during World War II. Distance 10 miles (6 hours approx)

The basics
- Suitability
Children aged 6+ who are able to walk the distance welcome
- Meeting point
Meet at the Marsden Moor Office, HD7 6DH. Please note that parking is charged now after two hours.
- What to bring and wear
Please bring suitable clothing and footwear. This walk will involve some very rough and wet terrain, we recommend sturdy waterproof boots. Please bring plenty to drink and snacks.
- Accessibility
Some steep climbs and some uneven terrain. Route ascends to 450m at Pennine Way.
- Other
Owing to rough terrain we are advising that dogs may struggle if unused to rough moorland walking. Our advice is therefore not to bring them. Suggested donation of £3 which goes towards running these walks and restoring the moorland.
