Rockside Cottage is part of a pretty square of old stone fisherman's cottages on the shore of Embleton Bay. Just opposite the cottage is a traditional country pub where dogs are welcome. And there's always the dog-friendly beach at Embleton if your four-legged friend wants to practice his doggy paddle.

Overlooking the golden sands of Embleton Beach, this quirky cottage was once used as a lookout point by the coastguard. These days, it's a cosy, pet-friendly cottage for four people and two dogs. From the cottage you can walk down to the beach, where dogs will love playing fetch on the sand and running through the dunes.

St Oswald's Cottage

Escape to an island steeped in history when you stay in this grade II listed cottage on Holy Island. You'll be overlooking the harbour and Lindisfarne Castle, which is a 10-minute walk through the green fields. There are lots of walking routes around the island and castle, guaranteed to set tails wagging. After a day's adventure, rest those weary paws in front of the cottage's wood-burning fire.

Risemoor

Close to the sands of Embleton Bay, this dog-friendly cottage is a great spot for wildlife watching. As well as being only a one-minute walk from dog-friendly Embleton Beach, the house is next door to Newton Pool Nature Reserve. This freshwater lagoon attracts a variety of wildlife and you might even spot the elusive otters that live around the reserve.

Springwell Cottage

Just a few hundred yards from Hadrian's Wall, this pet-friendly cottage looks out over the Northumberland countryside.
