The Cotswolds, with its rolling meadows, ancient woodlands, and wildflower-rich limestone grasslands, is home to over 1,000 moth species, including the striking cinnabar moth and the colourful elephant hawk-moth. These moths play a crucial role in pollination and serve as a vital food source for birds and bats. Moth trapping is a popular method used to study moth species, their behaviours, and population dynamics. These traps provide crucial data on moth diversity, distribution, and abundance, contributing to conservation efforts and the understanding of ecosystem health. Join us on Saturday, 31st May and Sunday, 1st June for our free event where we will be releasing pre-trapped moths back into their natural habitat. This is a great opportunity to learn about and appreciate these fascinating insects with an expert on hand to answer questions about the region's diverse moth and butterfly population. Rest assured, no moths will be harmed during this event. We look forward to seeing you there!
