Lent
Celebrate 600 years of Brockhampton with traditional Lent displays in the manor house.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Lower Brockhampton manor house is celebrating its 600th anniversary in 2025 by reviving the medieval tradition of illustrated calendars, showcasing the "Labours of the Month which are the seasonal tasks of everyday working people.
Lent has been a time of reflection and abstinence for hundreds of years. Brockhampton's inhabitants would have spent the 46 days with frequent church attendance and prayer. We will be marking this date in the medieval calendar with emptying all forbidden foodstuffs from our Buttery, highlighting recipes designed lent, 600 years ago, and highlighting the liturgical items in our collection with a small exhibition in the Great Hall.
This event is free, normal admission applies.
