An idyllic holiday spot, this restored farmworker's cottage on the Wallington Estate is perfect for a peaceful getaway.
Eskeleth is a fine example of an 18th-century farmworker’s cottage. The cottage has been brightly decorated in warm tones and has many original features, including beams. It once formed part of the large farm steading of Hartington Hall, which dates to the 16th-century. Hartington Hall was once a Bastle House; these were defensive farmhouses unique to the Anglo-Scottish border area and hark back to the wilder days in the region’s history.
Head down the sweeping driveway and arrive to the rear of the cottage. On entering at the rear, off the hallway you will find the kitchen diner with cooking range and a large but cosy sitting room with a stone surrounded woodburner. A door from the sitting room leads to the twin bedroom, which can also be set up as a large double, with en-suite shower room. Turning left after entering the cottage brings you to the family bathroom with shower over bath and the king-size bedroom. You can also enter the cottage through the traditional front porch.
At the front of the cottage is a garden with mature beds, manicured lawn and open views to the Hart Burn valley. To the rear is a large garden with lawned areas and outdoor seating to enjoy the open views to the countryside.
There are many National Trust places nearby to explore, such as Wallington which is just 3 miles away, Hadrian’s Wall, Cragside and Seaton Delaval Hall. Rothbury village is approximately 13 miles away and has a range of shops including antique and niche gift shops, plus many galleries, tea rooms and pubs.
